British
Tour
...
Karen Lynne, who had travelled from Australia to undertake a short
tour to promote her exceptional debut album Labour Of Love,
opened with a half-hour acoustic set then followed Niki to close
the evening with a 45-minute set, both of which went down exceptionally
well with the packed audience. Backed by fellow Aussie Martin Louis
on five string dobro and Rufus Raffaell on acoustic and slide guitar,
Karen played her own guitar. Her repertoire comprised some well-known
standards like I Still Miss Someone, Crazy, Coat Of Many Colours
and Sweet Dreams but, as she had come to promote her own
album, her two sets were largely made up of her own original material.
... Surprisingly, for a British audience of this type, they were
prepared to accept a substantial amount of original material with
which they were unfamiliar, proving that, if it is well delivered,
it is possible for artists like Karen to win them over and explode
the fallacy that all they are prepared to listen to is Crystal
Chandelier and Blanket on the Ground. Karen Lynne, as
unknown to the audience as Niki Dean, held the attention of the
audience throughout and by the end of the night had won many new
admirers.

I
managed to visit Our Lady Of Lourdes club in Birkdale to
see Karen Lynne from Australia and it was well worth making the
effort. Karen has a superb voice and has co-written some very nice
songs. Some of these she included on the night along with some great
covers.

On
the night of our visit we were in for some pleasant surprises ....
a lady from Australia Karen Lynne, more used to fronting a band,
she was accompanied by a young man on a five string dobro. Karen's
voice was fantastic, very sweet and powerful, she had no trouble
in winning over the audience. I even caught some of the westerners
standing on the balcony captivated by her performance.
